Ecology & Habitat

Habitat

Primarily inhabits humid temperate forests, montane regions, and riparian zones in northern Portugal and northwestern Spain, typically at elevations between 200-1,500 meters above sea level.

Ecological Role

Key indicator species for forest ecosystem health, controlling invertebrate populations and serving as prey for larger predators. Sensitive to environmental changes, particularly habitat fragmentation and climate variations.

  • LIMBS WINGS Four relatively short limbs with four digits on front and five on rear feet, adapted for terrestrial and aquatic movement
