Ecology & Habitat

Habitat

Cool temperate forest and mountain stream environments in East Asian regions, typically at elevations between 500-1,500 meters above sea level. Prefers humid, moist microhabitats with dense vegetation and proximity to water sources.

Ecological Role

Critical component of forest ecosystem food webs, serving as both predator of small invertebrates and prey for larger vertebrates. Contributes to controlling insect populations and supporting biodiversity in montane ecosystems.

Morphology

  • SKIN COAT Smooth, moist skin with camouflage coloration ranging from olive-green to brown, allowing effective concealment in forest substrates.
  • LIMBS WINGS Powerful hindlimbs adapted for jumping and swimming. Webbed feet with adhesive toe pads for climbing and gripping surfaces in forest environments.
  • HEAD SENSORY Large prominent eyes with excellent peripheral vision. Well-developed tympanum for acoustic perception. Short, broad snout characteristic of ranid frogs.
  • BODY STRUCTURE Small-sized frog, typically measuring 35-50 mm in length. Slender body with streamlined adaptation for movement through dense forest undergrowth.
