Habitat

Subtropical and temperate mountain forests of Taiwan, ranging from sea level to approximately 3,000 meters elevation, predominantly in dense woodland and rocky terrain

Morphology

  • SKIN COAT Dense fur coloration ranging from grayish-brown to dark brown, shorter coat in warmer regions, thicker insulating coat at higher elevations
  • LIMBS WINGS Quadrupedal locomotion, strong forelimbs and hindlimbs with dexterous hands capable of complex manipulation, prehensile capabilities
  • HEAD SENSORY Pronounced facial features, forward-facing eyes, well-developed binocular vision, pronounced canine teeth, omnivorous dentition
  • BODY STRUCTURE Medium-sized primate, adult body mass between 5-12 kg, body length 40-55 cm, robust muscular build with adapted limb structure for arboreal and terrestrial movement
